The Role of Strategy in the Boardroom

For nearly as long as modern corporate governance structures have existed, a director’s contribution to strategy has primarily remained the same. Typically management is responsible for strategy development, only presenting to the board for approval once a full draft of the strategic vision is accomplished; this is known as a “review and concur” model. However, new thinking about the importance of directors and management being equally involved in strategy development are emerging.
